MULTRASHIP’S DEDICATION
Our ESG commitments have been formally embedded in our operations, guiding decisions and shaping the way we grow. We are on a journey to continuously improve our performance, innovate responsibly, and collaborate with partners who share our vision for a sustainable maritime sector.
Stance on responsibility
As specialists in towage and salvage, we understand the impact of our work and embrace our role in shaping a sustainable future. Guided by the UN’s definition of sustainable development, we act with purpose: meeting today’s needs while safeguarding opportunities for generations to come. Through open dialogue and collaboration, ESG is more than a framework; it’s a catalyst for progress.
Environmental: Safeguarding the marine environment is central to our mission. Our advanced vessels and equipment are designed to minimize environmental impact, supporting the industry’s sustainable transformation.
Social: Our heritage reflects loyalty, flexibility, and a human-centered approach. We invest in talent and promote maritime careers to ensure a skilled workforce for the future, strengthening our sustainability agenda.
Governance: Transparency and accountability are the cornerstones of our governance. We uphold ethical conduct and robust systems to ensure compliance and integrity in our sustainability journey.
How we make a difference: ESG‑Aligned Maritime Risk Mitigation
Environmental protection is central to our mission. Every intervention focuses on preventing spills, protecting sensitive waters and supporting clients in meeting evolving ESG and regulatory requirements.
At Multraship, we go beyond providing maritime services - we actively work to generate positive impact for the environment and our stakeholders. Our initiatives align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and follow the Impact Management Project framework, ensuring a structured and outcome-focused approach.
- Life Below Water: Protecting Marine Ecosystems - Marine habitats can be vulnerable to pollution and debris, which threaten biodiversity and ecosystem health. Multraship’s salvage and towage operations are designed to reduce these risks and promote the recovery of affected ecosystems.
- Affordable and Clean Energy: Accelerating the Transition to Cleaner Fuels - Maritime operations remain a significant source of emissions from conventional fuels. Multraship is actively supporting the adoption of low-carbon alternatives, such as HVO and hydrogen, to help reduce environmental impact across our operations and the wider sector.
Ambitions and priorities
Aligned with the Multraship 2030 Strategy, sustainability is a strategic pillar. We aim to:
- Implement robust ESG monitoring and engagement systems across our value chain.
- Share ESG policies, reports, and achievements with stakeholders.
- Support EU objectives (Paris Agreement, Fit for 55, European Green Deal) and IMO targets for net-zero emissions by 2050.
- Drive innovation in fuel solutions and industry collaboration.
- Invest in talent to secure a future-ready workforce.
CO₂ Approach
We calculate and monitor emissions in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, covering tugboats, generator sets, shore power, and value-chain activities. Monthly measurements and annual reporting ensure transparency and control.
Our methodology follows the CO₂ Performance Ladder, enabling continuous improvement through identification, implementation, and refinement of reduction measures.
Active CO₂ Reduction in Our Fleet
Our fleet is continuously optimised to reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. This includes:
- Use of shore power where available
- Application of HVO fuels (HVO20/HVO50) to reduce direct emissions
- Operational efficiency measures, such as limiting idle hours
- Data-driven insights on fuel consumption and generator loads
- Crew awareness programmes focused on fuel-efficient operations
Sector Alignment & Chain Collaboration
We stay ahead of maritime developments: new fuels, technical innovations, and evolving regulations; ensuring our fleet remains future-ready.
We also strongly believe in collaboration. We actively seek partnerships across the value chain, including port authorities, technology partners, suppliers and other maritime organisations. Through collaboration, we can scale solutions more quickly, share knowledge and realise improvements that individual organisations cannot achieve alone.
Multraship’s ESG steering committee
We have a dedicated ESG steering committee, which consists of five members of the management team, to drive sustainable development. Building on input from the management team and employees, this committee is responsible for developing ESG strategies and objectives, ensuring compliance with ESG regulations, and overseeing the annual ESG reporting cycle.
