We are already seeing this shift in practice. Operations are becoming more complex, particularly when larger vessels and higher volumes of bunker fuel are involved. At the same time, all types of cargoes are presenting new environmental risks, especially in sensitive regions like Northern Europe.

The reality is that responding is no longer enough. Being prepared, adaptable, and equipped to handle a wide range of scenarios is now essential. That is why Multraship is continuously investing in how we operate, starting with our fleet.

Our focus is on maintaining a versatile and dependable fleet that can support both routine towage and complex emergency response. It is not simply about adding vessels. It is about ensuring the right balance of capabilities so we can respond effectively, whatever the situation.

Sustainable fuel strategy
Operating in Northern Europe means working within strict environmental frameworks, including emission control areas and protected marine zones. Reducing our footprint in areas that we are so prominent is a clear priority.

We are actively exploring how to lower emissions across our fleet without compromising performance, including adopting alternative fuels

Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, or HVO, is one of the solutions currently under evaluation at Multraship. As a drop-in fuel, it can be used in existing engines without modification, offering a practical way to reduce emissions.

We are assessing how HVO 2 and HVO 50 can be applied across our Emergency Response and Towing Vessels to provide a more sustainable option while still meeting the operational demands of our work.

That said, the transition is not so straightforward. We have to ensure that we find ways of reducing our carbon footprint without compromising on how well our vessels are able to operate. Some vessels still need to operate hundreds of miles out at sea, while others are going to operate closer to home. We understand the importance of striking that balance and making the right decision for Multraship, our team and our customers.

Multraship is building a fleet for the future and doing so in a way that is going to be right for all of our partners.

Data-driven operations
Alongside fleet and fuel strategy, technology data is playing an increasingly important role in how we improve our day-to-day performance.

We have introduced systems to capture detailed operational and technical data across our vessels, giving us insight into fuel consumption, engine use, and overall performance.

The real value lies in how we use that data. By analysing performance under different conditions, we gain a clearer understanding of how our vessels operate and how our crews respond. This helps us identify where efficiencies can be gained and where improvements can be made.

During harbour towage, for example, data can show how factors such as swell affect fuel usage and manoeuvring. These insights are then used to support how we train our crew and develop our operational planning.

It also gives our crews greater awareness of their own impact. With better insight, they are able to make more informed decisions in real time and continue developing their skills.

Future readiness
The demands on tug and salvage operations will continue to evolve. Larger vessels, more complex cargoes, and stricter environmental expectations are already shaping how we work.

Multraship’s approach is to invest where it matters. Strengthening our fleet, advancing sustainable fuel options, and making better use of data all play a role in how we prepare for the future.

Taken together, these efforts ensure we remain ready to respond, whatever the challenge.

Our focus is simple. Stay prepared, support our crews, and continue building a fleet that can meet the demands of a changing maritime environment.
